"Combat Art of the Sword" Jissen Kenjutsu

Our Kenjutsu course offers an excellent cross section of sword training, that combines old and new methods, following the evolution of the Samurai.

Training starts with the Bokken (wooden sword) and moves through Iaito (False edge blade sword), Choken (Safe Sparring sword), and Shinken (live blade)

Jissen KenjutsuCombat Kenjutsu training consists of:

Kihon
The student is first introduced to the basic postures (kamae) and cuts (kiri) of classic Kenjutsu.

Suburi
The student will learn various sword swinging patterns, that can be used for warm up and also for combat.

Kata
Once the student has learnt the basics they will then move onto solo forms. Emphasis on good posture, arc of cut, and mental awareness (zanshin) are taught.

Kumitachi
Students will drill partner excercises from various classics Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu schools.
